Solar System for Kids: Fun Facts & Activities
The Solar System is like a big space family! At the center is the Sun, a huge, hot ball of fire that gives light, warmth, and energy. All the planets, moons, and even tiny asteroids move around the Sun.
Our Solar System lives in a galaxy called the Milky Way, which is full of stars, planets, and other exciting things. Today, we are going to visit all the planets and learn fun facts about them!
Mars
Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun, nicknamed the Red Planet for its reddish soil. It has mountains, valleys, and huge volcanoes. Mars’ thin atmosphere makes the sky look pinkish-orange.
Science concept
Mars is rocky like Earth but has very thin air, so humans cannot breathe there without space gear.

Fun fact
Mars has the tallest volcano in the Solar System, called Olympus Mons, which is about three times taller than Mount Everest!
Parent tip
Talk about volcanoes and mountains. Ask your child what they imagine living on Mars would be like.
